Agnes Catherine Seger
(Born August 2. 1900; died July 30, 1993 in Minneapolis.)

Agnes was Wisconsin's elocution champion in 1916 from Merrill High School. She graduated with honors at age 16 and became the superintendent's secretary. At age 17, she left for Denver on the train to live with great aunt Ellen, Axel Seger's sister. She attended business school in Denver and became a secretary at Children's hospital there. With sister Ida and great aunt Ellen (Axel Seger's sister) who were in Denver some of the time, she attended the First Free Church. It was on a street car, where Paul Thompson was a motor man, that Agnes met her husband-to-be Paul Thompson. He died in 1971.

Agnes and Paul were married September 10, 1922 in Denver, Colorado. Both were 22 years old. Paul was a motorman with the Denver Tramway for 49 years. Agnes worked until her retirement at age 62 at the Veterans Administration as the death details manager. She was the liason between doctors and family of the veterans. Her nickname was "Digger."

Agnes taught a Sunday School class of 100 young women called the Maranatha Bible Class. She was an alto soloist and sang in church choirs all of her life. She directed young people's groups, started a hand bell choir at church, and entertained the seniors with a "washboard band." The Evangelical Free Church in Denver was where she had many friends, and was a long time member. She was asked to speak at various women's clubs in Denver, at the mission in downtown Denver where both Agnes and Paul had meetings of music and recitations.

Agnes had a sense of humor and laughed alot. She came to entertain Pauline's music classes while visiting in Minneapolis. The elementary children loved her.

Agnes, like Mormor, loved "to go on trips." Agnes and Kathy went to China in 1980. Agnes has traveled to Norway, Sweden, Israel. Greece, Australia, New Zeland,Hawaii, Alaska, Italy, and several cruises.

Agnes lived for 20 years in the senior apartments in Denver close to the Free Church. She was near Pauline in Minneapolis her last 2 1/2 years where she was still entertaining the residents with her stock of "readings" and even the daily newspaper. At age 93 she passed away quietly . She was one day short of becoming 93, so the family celebrated her with a "birthday party." We sang one of Agnes' favorites, "When It's Springtome In The Rockies."
